CHAPEL SUMMARY

Madascar SceneMadagascar - treeOur speaker for last week’s Chapel was Ranaivoarisoa Mandimby Haja, a full-time Graduate Diploma in Christian Studies student from Madagascar. He introduced us to his country, the fourth largest island in the world and included in the world’s biodiversity ‘hotspots’. This extremely poor and politically unstable country is home to 5% of the world’s animal and plant species, of which about 90% are endemic, such as the Baobab tree (six endemic species out of eight worldwide), the lemurs and the fossa (the only predator). The land of the Moramora (slow slow) Madagascar - animaland the Fihavanana (Kinship, friendship, goodwill),

Madagascar needs our prayers for its political stability and for the spread of the Gospel. According to a 2007 survey, less than 5% of its rural population are born again Christians while animism and ancestors’ worship involve 80% of the total population. Let us remember Madagascar in our prayers.
