Chapel Notes

At Chapel on 16th February Dr Satterthwaite brought his series on Isaiah 56–66 to a temporary pause with a sermon on Ephesians 4. Continuing the line of interpretation he developed in expounding Isaiah 60–62, where he drew a link between Isaiah’s visions of a restored Jerusalem and the good works which are required of Christians (see Matt. 5:16; 1 Pet. 2:1; 3:13–17), Dr Satterthwaite spoke on the theme of Christian unity. A key part of NT teaching is that the church is the Body of Christ, an organic unity, a new community which is intended to show to the world a new way of being human. We should not understand ‘good works’ as something that Christians carry out as separate individuals; rather, we do them in conscious dependence on our brothers and sisters in Christ, always aiming to maintain the unity of the Body. If we make this a priority, it will be a clear sign that we have understood and properly responded to God’s promises (not least those set out in Isaiah 60–62).

The last two sermons in the series, on Isaiah 63–64 and 65–56, will be given later in the year.

Dr Satterthwaite’s sermon may be accessed through the BGST website (http://bgst.edu.sg/audio-resources/chapel-messages).

Dr Lai Pak Wah will be our chapel speaker on 23 February 2011. The Topic is “Faith, Science and Dialogue with God“.

Rev Dr John Yuen, Pastor of Evangel Baptist Church,  will be our chapel speaker on 2 March 2011. He will be speaking on, "The Call to Follow Jesus" (Luke 5:1-11; John 21:1-19). Chapel begins at 12 pm. You are welcome to join us.
