13 - 19 Apr 2009

Chapel Summary

The speaker for last week’s Chapel was Mickey Chiang, our long time friend and alumnus, whom many of you know as the writer of  “Thinking Points,”a regular column in BTW. With his inimitable insight and not a little wit, Mickey warned us of the danger of “losing our wows.” If we’re not careful, we get seduced in holding exclusively to the scientific view of the world. In this view, science is going to provide all the answers. Conversely, if something cannot be measured by instruments it cannot exist. Miracles then are ruled out from the start. In contrast to this, we have the miracle of God’s creation in Genesis 1. If we do not exclaim “Wow!” when we hear of God’s wondrous work of creation, perhaps we have indeed “lost our wows.” Mickey then closed with two inspiring testimonies of God’s miraculous work in the lives of his friend and daughter-in-law. We thank Mickey for a timely reminder that God is still at work in the world today.
