Issue No. 39 4 - 10 Oct 2010
Chapel Notes Dr David Huntley

Rev Dr David Huntley spoke on “The Return of Christ, the End of the World – Will it Happen?”

The Promise of God
The message began with an affirmation that the Second Coming of Christ was an important promise of God for the following reasons:

It helps to make sense of the world and current affairs.
It is an encouragement.
It sorts out right and wrong.
It could be our first encounter with the visible Christ.
The Bible takes it very seriously.

Will It Happen? Yes!
Rev Huntley shared five insights drawn from Scripture to support his emphatic, “Yes!” to the question.

Christ’s visible, personal appearing is part of Christian FUTURE, and has not happened yet!
(I Thess 4:16-18, Heb 9:28, Phil 3:20-21, I John 3:2, Rev 1: 7-8, Rev 22:20)
Christ’s return will be personal, visible in real terms. (John 14:3, 3 Gospels, Acts 1:11, Phil 3:21)
Christ’s return will be unexpected (2 Pet 3:10, Mt 25:13, Mt 24:44)
Certain things must happen before Christ come again. (Wars, earthquakes, etc.)
A literal Second coming fits with the Common Sense, sense of logic and morals that God has given us. (Parables of Net and Tares, etc.)

The message concluded with two questions for reflection.

Am I ready for Christ if he came today?
Is what I do today something that I would be embarrassed about if He saw me doing it?
