The Certificate in Workplace Leadership is based on three key foundations to help
executives develop their leadership philosophy that empower them to fulfil God’s
mission for the world and making their work matter in this divine mission.
What is leadership? How do we develop it? These questions have been asked ever since ancient times and continue to fascinate us, because how one leads affects how one lives! While most agree that good leadership involves influencing others towards specific goals, how one influences also evolves with one’s experiences. Leadership is a journey and it is therefore important to set out on the right footing.
Who should attend?
- Executives who want to develop their leadership competencies.
- Managers who want enhance existing skills and take their leadership to the next level.

Leadership in the Workplace
Module 1 introduces the Christian perspectives of calling, work and business stewardship.
God’s mission is to create, redeem and transform the world, and Christians are called to participate in this divine mission (Missio Dei). An integral aspect of this calling is our work. The kind of work we do and how we do it matters to God. There is a need, therefore, to understand our vocation, and the work and businesses we are called to steward. In this module, we shall explore the biblical perspectives of work in dialogue with contemporary trends and the rapid changes in the future of work, and what being missional Christians entails in our workplaces. The concept of sustainable business, with its quadruple bottom lines (financial, social, environmental and spiritual), will also be introduced here, along with the rudiments of spiritual discernment in business decision making.

The Heart of Leadership*
Module 2 introduces spiritual formation disciplines and tools that will help executives improve their self-awareness, discern God’s guidance in decision making, and develop the spiritual and emotional resources needed to lead themselves well. This is because leadership can only flourish when it is built upon a robust character formation.
Good workplace leadership begins with leadership of the self. Business is not just something we do but the work is a manifestation of who we are. As Minouche Shafik (London School of Economics) puts it, “in the past, jobs were about muscles, now they’re about brains but in the future, they’ll be about heart.” This retreat-style module presents an experiential journey into the heart of leadership. It will not only introduce spiritual practices that will assure executives of God’s love for them, but also help them discern their particular calling, talents, and weaknesses. Disciplines in discerning God’s guidance in daily business decision making will also be taught.
*Module 2 is offered either as a 3D2N retreat and will incur separate accommodation expenses in Singapore, or it can take the form of a month long guided spiritual reflection programme.
