Photocopier - 1 Jul 2015

THE LIBRARY PHOTOCOPIER with stored-value card reader is now obsolete. With immediate effect, no stored-value photocopying card will be sold. Patrons are to obtain the stored-value card from the library for their photocopying needs. The charge will be 6 cents per page rounded off to the nearest 10 cents. We will continue with this arrangement till the photocopier breaks down.

Patrons who have stored-value photocopying card may exchange them for cash at the Library. The period for exchange ends on 31 Aug 2015.

Thank you for your kind understanding.

Photocopying Rules & Regulations

Users are required to comply with The Copyright Act and Regulations of Singapore when using Library materials.

Section 35 of the Copyright Act on Fair Dealing for the purpose of Research or Private Study states that if an article in a periodical publication is to be copied for this purpose, up to the whole article may be copied.

However, if a book is to be copied for this purpose, then only a reasonable portion may be copied – Section 35 (3).

The expression ‘reasonable portion’ is used only in relation to literary, dramatic and musical works contained in 10 or more pages in a published edition.

The limitations to copying are:

  1. Not more than 10% of the work
  2. If the work is divided into chapters, more than 10% of the work but not exceeding one chapter.
  3. Where a literary, dramatic or musical work is contained in a published edition stored on any medium by electronic means and is not divided into pages, a reasonable portion of it would not exceed 10% of the total number of bytes in that edition, or if chaptered, one chapter – Section 7 (2A) [amended 8/3/2000].

Items Left On Study Tables

Items left on study tables will be cleared periodically.

A patron may request permission from library staff to keep these books on the study table for a period of time. This is a privilege to help patrons in their research. It should not be used as way to horde a place.

The terms and conditions for such request are as follows:

  1. A patron must make the request at the Library Counter.
  2. A patron must display his name on top of these items. Just the word: “Reserve” is not sufficient.
  3. A patron must return to use these books within 4 hours of opening. Books will be shelved back at noon if the table remain vacant.

We seek your co-operation. Thank you.
