Diploma in Theological Studies (DipTS)

Accredited Diploma

The Diploma in Theological Studies (DipTS) is a joint programme offered by BGST and Trinity Theological College (TTC).

The DipTS is designed primarily to help lay Christians who desire foundational but also high-quality theological education for either their own development or in preparation for serving as lay leaders in the Church. It can also be taken by those who desire to be involved in Christian ministries but are not intending to or yet to seek ordination.

Students can register for this programme at either BGST or TTC. Courses offered at TTC are conducted mainly in the day, while courses offered at BGST are offered in the evenings or in online study formats providing flexibility and accessibility to the students.

DipTS credits are recognized and transferable to more advanced theological programmes at either BGST or TTC.

The DipTS is right for you if:

  • You want a comprehensive foundational programme to increase your knowledge of the Christian faith
  • You are finding ways to reflect theologically, grow spiritually and integrate your faith with areas of work and living
  • You are or will be serving as a lay leader in your church or in other ministries

Minimum Qualification
1. Full GCE-A Levels Certificate (2As and 2 AOs or 2 H2s and 2 H1s) or its equivalent.
2. Mature students who do not meet the above requirements may be accepted provided the following requirements are met:
a. They must demonstrate their ability to study at the DipTS level
b. They have passed GCE ‘AO’ /H1 General Paper
c. They have passed an entrance examination to determine their suitability

Admission Pre-requisites
- Students can be admitted to the DipTS at either school. Both schools will share information regarding the students admitted. If a student, having been admitted by one school, but goes on to take the majority of the DipTS courses at the school other than the one at which they were admitted, their registration should be transferred to the other school.
- Consideration of the personal and spiritual aspects of the applicant.

    • Paper-based = 550 points
    • Computer-based = 213 points
    • Internet-based = 78 points
  • IELTS Required Score: 6

    As BGST’s courses are minimally 1.5 credits, students are to select a 1.5 credit course from any subject areas at BGST to fulfil the 1 credit requirement.

    TTC Compulsory Course

    Theological Studies and Ministry (1 Cr)

    (This is a compulsory entry-level course in TTC)

    As BGST and TTC divides up their subjects differently, students are required to take all courses for one category (e.g., Historical Studies) at the same school.

    Graduation Requirements
    To be eligible to graduate with a DipTS, a student must have

    • Submitted a completed Application for Graduation form to the Registrar’s Office by March 31st of the year they wish to graduate in.
    • Satisfactorily completed all requirements (37 Credits) for the programme by April 30th of the year they wish to graduate in.
    • Attained a minimum Grade Point Average (GPA) of 2.8 
    • No outstanding payments to BGST

    The DipTS will be jointly issued by BGST and TTC and will carry the logos of both schools.

    Graduands of DipTS will have their graduation either at the BGST Convocation or TTC Graduation Ceremony. Students will graduate from the school where they originally registered, or the school to which their registration has been transferred in the course of their studies.

    Continuing Onto Other BGST or TTC Programmes
    DipTS credits are recognized and transferable to more advanced theological programmes at either BGST or TTC, namely:

    • BGST’s Master of Arts in Theology and Interdisciplinary Studies [MA(TIS)];
    • BGST’s Master of Divinity (MDiv); Students pursuing MDiv at BGST are required to begin either Biblical Hebrew (BH 111) or Biblical Greek (BG 111) early in their studies. The Biblical language studies for MDiv constitutes four courses that takes 2 years to complete.
    • TTC’s Bachelor of Divinity (BD);
    • TTC’s Master of Divinity (MDiv);
    • TTC’s Master of Theological Studies (MTS)

    Students wishing to transfer their diploma credits to Trinity Theological College (TTC) are advised to take the BGST-TTC joint DipTS programme.
